  12. SUBJECT:  OPS - Communications Shortfall - Part 2/2

  15.      "OES is working in several areas to remedy this shortfall:
  16. the Operational Area Satellite Information System (OASIS) is in
  17. the installation phase.  This system will result in situation
  18. reporting that is more timely and accurate.  The implementation
  19. of Senate Bill 1841 (Petris) will result in a standardized system
  20. for emergency management.  This will involve components already
  21. known to be effective such as ICS (Incident Command System), MACS
  22. (Multi-Agency Coordination System), the Mutual Aid systems and
  23. the operational area concept. Even with successful implementation
  24. of these projects, each organization and individual involved in
  25. emergency management needs to examine these issues from their own
  26. perspective.  What can be done to ensure the most timely and
  27. accurate damage assessment?  How can we ensure that responders
  28. and decision-makers can communicate with all those they need to,
  29. when they need to? How can we ensure that each entity and
  30. individual involved works with others in a manner that is truly
  31. coordinated?  Each of us needs to answer these questions this
  32. year."
